The third annual Jerry W. Kilgore 9th District Republican Gala was held on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Fincastle Country Club in Bluefield, VA. The event was a huge success with over 200 people attending.
The gala is named after Southwest Virginia’s own Jerry W. Kilgore, who served as Virginia’s Attorney General from 2002 to 2006 and was the Republican nominee for Governor in 2005.
This year the event had very special meaning in celebrating and honoring our new Congressman H. Morgan Griffith. Griffith defeated incumbent 28-year Democrat Rick Boucher in November 2010 and took office on January 5, 2011. Griffith gave a speech to the crowd on the importance of limiting the powers of government and keeping the United States fiscally sound.
Former 9th District Republican Chair Michelle Jenkins of Scott County was also recognized for her outstanding leadership and devotion to the 9th District Republican Committee.
In addition to being a very successful fund raising event for the 9th District Republican Committee, this year’s gala also raised over $5,000 to go directly to the Buchanan County, Virginia Deputy Sheriff Relief Fund that will benefit the families of the two deputies killed in the line of duty on March 13, 2011 and also to benefit the two deputies who were wounded during that same incident.
Plans are already underway for the 2012 Gala.
