O’Quinn Announces for House District 5

Israel O’Quinn announced today in Bristol that he is a candidate for the Republican nomination for the 5th District in the Virginia House of Delegates.  The 5th district after redistricting includes the following areas:

All of Grayson County; all of the Cities of Bristol and Galax; part of Smyth County comprised of the Adwolfe (701), Chilhowie (301), Konnarock (703), Royal Oak West (602), Seven Mile Ford (201), and St. Clair (302) Precincts; and part of Washington County comprised of the Clinchburg (201), Damascus (502), Glade Spring (401), Green Cove (504), Hayter’s Gap (203), High Point (701), John Battle (703), Meadowview (402), Rhea Valley (501), and Watauga (301) Precincts.

Delegate Bill Carrico, who presently represents the 5th District, announced on Monday he will be seeking the Republican nomination in the 40th State Senate District following William C. Wampler, Jr. deciding not to seek re-election.

Carrico Announces for Senate District 40

On Monday, June 6, Delegate Bill Carrico (R-5th District) announced that he will seek the Republican nomination for the 40th Senate District seat being left open by the retirement of William C. Wampler, Jr.  Wampler announced on June 3 that he would retire from the Senate of Virginia at the completion of his current term after serving for 24 years.

Carrico has served in the Virginia House of Delegates since 2002 representing the 5th District, which includes all of Grayson County, the City of Galax, and portions of the counties of Carroll, Smyth, and Wythe.

Nomination Processes Underway

Many county and city Republican units in the 9th District will be holding mass meetings, conventions, and/or primaries over the next couple months to nominate candidates for local offices such as Commonwealth’s Attorney, Sheriff, Treasurer, Commissioner of the Revenue, and local Boards of Supervisors positions.

There may also be other local offices on the ballot depending upon the locality.

Additionally, nomination processes will be held for candidates for the Virginia General Assembly (House of Delegates and Senate) this year.
