Adam Tolbert Elected Chairman of Virginia’s 9th Congressional District GOP
WYTHEVILLE, VA–Ninth Congressional District Republicans gathered at George Wythe High School in Wytheville on Saturday, April 12th at a Convention to elect a new chairman of the Ninth Congressional District Republican Committee. Two candidates vied for the Chairmanship—Charlie Hargis of Washington County and Adam Tolbert of Smyth County. Approximately 250 delegates from the counties and cities comprising the Ninth District attended and voted. After balloting concluded, Hargis made the final motion to elect Tolbert by acclamation to serve a two-year term. Ninth District Congressman Morgan Griffith was also in attendance and gave remarks to the crowd.
“I am very honored to have been elected as the Chairman of the 9th Congressional District Republican Committee,” Tolbert said after the vote. “I appreciate the strong vote of confidence and will continue to lead the hard work that has been going on in the 9th District. Thank you to everyone who attended the Convention, and everyone who has worked very hard to build our party over the previous years. We have a lot to be proud of in the 9th District as the most consistent Republican district in the Commonwealth. We will continue making the ‘Fightin’ Ninth’ the best possible place to live and work.”
The Ninth Congressional District includes 29 localities. Counties included are Alleghany, Bland, Buchanan, Carroll, Craig, Dickenson, Floyd, Giles, Grayson, Lee, Montgomery, Patrick, Pulaski, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, and Wythe; all of the Cities of Bristol, Covington, Galax, Martinsville, Norton, Radford, and Salem; and portions of the counties of Henry and Roanoke.
